Crete: Inset showing Western Crete

Crete is the southernmost and largest Greek island. Geographically, the island is easily divided into three regions, east, central and west.

The western part of Crete consists of narrow coastal plains and valleys, foothills and the ever present Lefka Ori (White Mountains). All of which combine to provide outstanding countryside to explore and scenery to admire.

The Apokoronas Region of north west Crete lies to the east of the city of Xhania (Chania). The region is considered one of the greener areas of the island, with plenty of vegetation and trees, that provide welcome overhead cover during the hotter months.

Vision of Crete is located in the village of Almyrida, in the Apokoronas region of Western Crete. Almyrida occupies a sheltered position along the southern shoreline near the entrance of Souda Bay.

It comes as no surprise that the area is popular throughout the year; with the sea to the north and east, and the Lefka Ori (White Mountains) providing a majestic backdrop to the south, there are many places within the area that provide stunning views, whatever the season.
